Calcium is involved in cellular proliferation. Sulphate is a component of the stabilising structures of many types of connective tissue and is present in mucus secreted by some epithelial goblet cells found in the digestive and respiratory system.

• Connective tissue: Sulfate is a structural component of many glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans, glycolipids and glycoproteins found in connective tissue, contributing to its strength, elasticity and hydration.
• Calcium functions as an intercellular cement with sulfated glycosaminoglycans. It is required for the cell division cycle of epithelial cells, and consequently for the cell proliferation phase of wound healing.
• Immunity: Sulfate is a component of the mucus secreted as a protective agent by epithelial goblet cells found in the digestive and respiratory system.
